Presentation
The Group of Interdisciplinary Physics (Grupo de Física Interdisciplinar, GFI), founded in 2001, is a research, development and innovation (R&D&I) group based in the Department of Applied Physics III of the ETSI Engineering School of the University of Seville , in Spain.
The GFI collaborates with public and private institutions. Among them, the Pediatric Neurosurgery Unit and the Neurosurgery Service of “Virgen del Rocío” and “Virgen Macarena” University Hospitals in Seville, the Applied Neuroscience Group at the Institute of Biomedicine of Sevilla (IBIS), the EOD-CBRN Group of the Spanish National Police, the Calar Alto Astronomical Observatory (Almería, Spain), the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC, Granada, Spain) the Andalusian Network for the Design and Translation of Advanced Therapies (RAdytTA), the HUMAINT Project of the Joint Research Center (JRC) of the European Commission and other entities, with an academic, educational and social interest vocation.
Research, development and innovation lines (R&D&I).
The GFI's activities are focused on Applied Physics and Optics combined with Artificial Intelligence in Neurosciences, Neurophotonics, Ophthalmology and other medical areas. GFI researchers co-direct and actively participate in pioneering Neurosurgery, Fetal Surgery and Interventional Oncology interventions at a national and international level, and in the design of diagnostics aid systems and optical and photonic technologies. GFI's most recent R&D lines include the design and development of optical technology combined with artificial intelligence for remote detection of SARS-CoV-2 virus (screening of COVID-19) and other pathogens in fluids. Some of our most outstanding projects are focused on:
-
Optical detection techniques of SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19 screening (C-CLEAN Project).
-
Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Health. Technologies and social impact (HUMAINT Project).
-
Biomechanics and hydrodynamics of hydrocephalus and related pathologies (FUSCLEAN Project).
-
Computer-aided diagnosis in hepatology (LITMUS Project) and neurology (multiple sclerosis, BOC Project)
-
Neurosciences and intraoperative neurophotonics (Epilepsy Project).
-
Image-guided surgery and non-invasive surgery in neurosurgery, fetal surgery, and interventional oncology (Pioneer Surgeries).
