OPD Project

​Title:

Optical Pathogen Detection. Developed from the C-CLEAN Project.

Type: 

Multidisciplinary project for the detection of pathogens in human fluids and water for the prevention of biological threats through optical and photonics technologies combined with artificial intelligence. With the EOD-CBRN Group of the Spanish National Police.

Principal investigators:

Prof.Dr. Emilio Gomez-Gonzalez.

Description:

The objective is to develop new tools for the detection of pathogens in fluids for the detection of biological threats and the protection of health and environment. This project is developed from the results obtained in the C-CLEAN Project for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 and screening of COVID-19.

C-CLEAN Project

​Title:

Proof of concept for rapid detection of surfaces contaminated by SARS-CoV-2 using multispectral holographic and optical analysis with artificial intelligence.

Type: 

Collaborative project in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Funded within the Emergency Call for Research Projects on SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19 of the Institute of Health 'Carlos III' (Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities), and a Project of Acquisition of Scientific and Technological Equipment of the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities 2019.

HUMAINT Project

Title:

HUman behavior and MAchine INTelligence

 

Type:

European Commission, EU H2020 project.

Description:

HUMAINT is an interdisciplinary project of the Center for Advanced Studies of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission. It aims to understand the impact of artificial intelligence on human behavior, focusing on cognitive and socio-emotional abilities, and decision making.

Hydrocephalus Project (HC)

​Title:

Study and personalized 3D modeling of the hydrodynamics of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) circulation in patients with hydrocephalus and related pathologies.

Type:

Research Projects, Group of Interdisciplinary Physics of the University of Seville, Applied Neuroscience Group of the Institute of Biomedicine (IBIS) of Seville and Neurosurgery Service of the "Virgen del Rocío" University Hospital. Since 2005, this line is still active today.

Description:

Design and development of 3D models of the circulation of the cerebrospinal fluid and the biomechanical behavior of the structures and tissues of the central nervous system in patients with hydrocephalus and related pathologies. Personalized analysis of hydrodynamic studies.

FUSCLEAN Project

​Title:

Combined optical imaging and ultrasound focusing for hand-held, non-invasive cleaning of implanted cerebrospinal fluid shunting devices in patients of hydrocephalus: initial design and proof-of-concept (FUSCLEAN)

Type:

EU H2020 European High Impact Project in the ATTRACT Program (led by CERN). Also financed by the Junta de Andalucía (CEI Andalucía-Tech), the FIPSE Foundation and a researcher with the help of AEI MICIN and FEDER.

Description:

This project presents the design and development of a handheld device for the application of focused image-guided ultrasound for preventive and non-invasive acoustic cleaning of implanted valves in patients with hydrocephalus.

LITMUS Project

Title:

Liver Investigation: Testing Marker Utility in Steatohepatitis

 

Type:

European Project EU H2020.

Description:

The objective of LITMUS is to develop, validate in a robust way and advance in the regulation of biomarkers to diagnose, stratify the risk and / or monitor the progression of NAFLD / NASH and the stage of fibrosis. This will be achieved through a tripartite, objective-based collaboration, delivering a platform for definitive and impartial evaluation for biomarkers.

FLIP FP7 Project

Title:

Fatty Liver: Inhibition of Progression

 

Type:

FP7 European Project (2009-2011).

 

Principal investigator:

Prof. Dr. Vlad Riatzu

 

Description:

This project studies the mechanisms of liver disease progression in NAFLD and proposes preventive and therapeutic strategies.

The project is based on the largest European cohort of patients histologically diagnosed with NAFLD, together with clinical and epidemiological data, and with DNA biobanks, frozen liver tissue and serum.

Intraoperative Visual Stimulator.

 

Type:

Description:

Design of a device to stimulate the optic pathway through the eyelids of anesthetized patients to monitor the condition of the optic pathway during brain tumor interventions that could affect it. Used in various neurosurgical interventions.

'Laboratory of Non-invasive Tumor Treatment Technologies' (LTN) with MRgFUS technology Project

Title:

Start-up in Seville (2007) of the first -and only 2013- installation of non-invasive surgery in Spain using magnetic resonance-focused focused ultrasound technology (MRgFUS).

 

Type:

Description:

Title:

Open Fetal Neurosurgery Program for Intrauterine Correction of Spina Bifida (in fetuses of 24-26 weeks). It includes the first intervention of this type carried out in Europe (Seville, 2007).

Description:

Design and development of the first system of integration of multiple sources of image and data for intraoperative use in the operating room. In collaboration with the "Virgen del Rocío" University Hospital in Seville, Spain. Used by the Department of Neurosurgery in the period 2004-2010, until it was replaced by the "Portable Smart Operating Room (QIP)" developed by the same authors. Used in more than 350 Child Neurosurgery interventions and in interventions of the Open Fetal Neurosurgery and EXIT Fetal Surgery Program during that period.
